1930s "RUR" Reproduction Hand-Printed Poster

This is a reproduction of a WPA (Works Progress Administration) poster published between 1935 and 1939 for the Federal Theatre Project, the first and only government-sponsored and subsidized theater program in United States history. The FTP employed over 1,200 theater professionals during its tenure and staged more than 2,700 productions, which were seen by over 25 million viewers across the country. This poster promotes a production of the play "RUR" – a play by Karel Capek that premiered in Czechoslovakia in 1921 and is known for coining the term "robot" – at the Marionette Theater.

Every effort was made to create an accurate, faithful reproduction – using the same hand-pulled silkscreen process, the same number of colors, and the same paper size as the original. These stunning posters are unparalleled in their quality and they will never be reprinted once the edition of 350 has been depleted.
