Pumpkin "Connecticut" Heirloom Seeds
HISTORY: One of the oldest pumpkins in existence, given to us by the Native American people pre-1700. Connecticut Field is the New England standard for Jack-O'Lanterns, with its thick orange skin and bright yellow flesh.
HABIT: Large fruit 10-15 inches in diameter, weighing up to 25 pounds. Large plants need plenty of space. When mature, cut from vines with pruning shears, leaving 3 inches of stem.
CULTURE: Plant seed outdoors in late spring after ground has warmed and danger of frost is past. Traditionally planted in "hills" (a small circular group of 3-5 seeds) seeds can also be planted in rows. Each ring of seeds is called a hill and hills should be spaced 6-10 feet apart in among the corn. Cover seed with 1/2 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Pumpkin seed germinates in 7-14 days, depending on weather. Matures in 100 days.
