Hagi-Yaki "Ido" Tea Bowl
"Hagi-yaki" is a traditional style of Japanese pottery, dating back to the early 17th century. "Hagi-yaki" is characterized by a translucent white glaze, which features "kan-nyu" cracking on its surface. This cracking naturally occurs due to a difference in shrinkage between the glaze and the clay after the pieces are removed from the kiln.
The "kan-nyu" effect becomes more evident over time as the pieces are used and small traces of tea or sake seep into the cracks in the glaze, a natural aging process known as "shichi bake."
