In his Brooklyn studio, our friend Chris Grodzki makes aprons and bags that will last lifetimes.
Chris has these things in his blood. His grandfather Stanley sewed, cut patterns, and ran deliveries for Aprons for Industry, a manufacturer in Manhattan's East Village. After that company folded in the 1970s, Stanley bought its discarded machinery and hired its displaced workers. He called his new venture the Apron and Bag Supply Co.
When Stanley passed away, Chris's family was forced to liquidate the company. But Chris frequently found himself at a sewing machine, repairing jeans and experimenting at making bags. When a storeowner friend asked to stock some of the things he'd been making, Chris realized he was walking in familiar footsteps.
Honoring the family's former business, he named his enterprise Stanley & Sons Apron & Bag Co.
