N70-032 "Shijira" Dobby Stripe Scarf, Indigo / Orange

Known for its distinctive crinkled, crepe-like texture, Shijira (or "Awa Shijira-ori") is a cotton fabric that originated in Tokushima Prefecture during the Meiji Era. It is often used for summer kimonos or "yukata." The texture is very similar to seersucker, and it has similar properties. The fabric works well in Japan's hot, humid summers, as it does not stuck to the skin and provides good breathability. The uneven texture of flat and puckered yarns is achieved by alternating different tensions among the warp yarns.
