The iconic plastic Wiffle Ball and yellow Wiffle Bat have been produced in Shelton, Connecticut since their invention in 1953. David Mullany designed the ball so that his son could throw curveballs more easily; the oblong holes in one hemisphere of the ball give it an eccentric center of gravity and allow for a wide variety of trick pitches.
The ball and bat have become a fixture in suburban backyards and school gyms, as their light weight makes them perfect for ball games in enclosed spaces.
